The RSJ Agent is what Groundskeeper, Caretaker and Courier put on each machine: one agent with a module per product. Before it goes on every computer in a school, here is exactly what it is.

In plain English
Called RSJ Agent, running under the system account, with a small tray icon that shows its health and versions and nothing else.
The Groundskeeper module only reads. A module that can act, like Caretaker’s, is there only when the school has added that product.
Over HTTPS, to the servers it was set up with, checking each one’s certificate. It never contacts RSJ Software and sends no telemetry.
New versions come from your own Groundskeeper or Caretaker server, checked against the fingerprint the server gives, never from the internet.
Its identity, which products it serves, their keys (encrypted) and its logs, in a folder locked to the system and administrators. Only a small status file for the tray icon, with no secrets in it, is readable by others.
The agent and every module are free. It is removed when the last product that needs it is uninstalled.
The RSJ Agent Console
The Console is a free, self-hosted page that finds the machines on your domain and shows, for each one, whether it has the agent, which of your servers it talks to, its version and its modules, and, when a machine cannot be checked, why: switched off, blocked by its firewall, or refused.
It is in development and read-only today. Installing, updating and removing agents across a school from the same page is what comes next.

The agent and its installers are being code-signed under RSJ Software Ltd. Until that is in place, Windows may show a warning when an installer is first run.

No. Groundskeeper’s connectors work without it; the agent adds detail from each Windows PC and server. Caretaker and Courier need it, because they work on the machine itself.
